MOBID-19

In a world full of can’ts and don’ts, it’s the cans that matter most.

I’m not sure how it happens, but there seems to always be a gathering of people who begin to ponder all the reasons why something can’t be done or shouldn’t be done. Things like flying, parachuting, going to the moon, finding a way to prosper when the nation is suffering from a great depression, seem overwhelming to many. Fear, panic, worry, depression grab their attention and freeze them in a paralysis of the will.

Yet, there are others who look for solutions, answers, possibilities. They move forward. Sometimes they crawl, they fall, they fail, but they keep going. Sometimes these types of people move forward with joy and optimism. They are the bright lights in a world filled with darkness and misery. They have faith, hope, and the ability to reason rightly. They love themselves and their neighbors.

I think proper nomenclature for people who won’t or can’t find, within themselves, reasons to believe include doomsayers, naysayers, pessimists, catastrophic thinkers, hecklers, etc. I’m sure there are more names but my point is that this way of thinking is like a deadly virus. It’s contagious. It jumps from one mind to the next. People who have it may or may not show symptoms but are very capable of passing it on to others nonetheless. They pass it to family members, communities, strangers, organizations, etc. Sometimes, when passed, it doesn’t completely subvert the recipients’ sense of optimism but may only slightly alter minor decisions affected by the psycho-virus. Regrettably, every decision made in fear leads to more fear.

Unfortunately, men/women in positions of wealth and power are not immune to this destructive manner of thinking. When fully infected by this psycho-virus of can’t, won’t, don’t, shouldn’t, these people in power begin to use their influence to keep others from believing and doing. They see people who are making efforts to improve life as threats to their personal well being. It doesn’t make sense but it doesn’t have to make sense, they have lost the ability to hope, to judge accurately and make sound decisions. They have succumbed to MORBID-19 or just MOBID-19.

Luckily, there are things you can do to reduce your chances of being infected with MOBID-19. Prayer, meditation, fellowship with others who maintain hopeful outlooks, exercise, fasting, open windows with sunshine, all strengthen your psycho-immune system. Avoid congregating too long with the naysayers etc. Keep a safe distance. Be alert to people who use can’t, don’t, shouldn’t, won’t, etc. They often wear long faces and sigh heavily for no apparent reason.

If you are in dire need of hope, I am a well-known hope dealer. I can smuggle hope in places where angels fear to tread. Reach out. Cheer up, mate!
